My Beauty Discoveries Midsummer 2017 - Clinique, Byredo...

Streetstyle Photography Kirasha

It is midsummer now and I find this a perfect time to share with you some of my favourite beauty discoveries since the beginning of summer 2017; namely in the categories of facial skincare and perfumes (but mostly skincare!). Disclaimer: this post is not sponsored.

1. Clinique 30 SPF Face Cream

Clinique Sun SPF 30 Face Cream Review

During daytime it is super important that you use a sunscreen when out. Even if it is raining, it does not mean that the Sun will damage our skin any less; on the contrary, rain can even multiply the amount of UV-rays to which we are exposed (not going to get into science here..but if you want to know more, definitely use Google).

It was difficult for me to incorporate an SPF routine into my usual skincare routine. Simply because I could not find a product that would match all related criteria: not make me break out (number one), not wear off easily, would compliment my makeup.

Thank you Clinique for introducing this amazing product, a face cream that does not require any add-ons (e.g. more face cream), and is actually fine on its own. It goes perfect with my makeup (although I should note here that I do not use a foundation), and protects at the same time. Oh, and it has no fragrance (that's another reason for me why it ranks higher than other sun-protecting face creams).

2. Byredo Blanche Eau de Parfum

Byredo Blanche Eau de Parfum Review
Clean & Long-lasting Floral by Byredo

If you follow me on Insta, then you already know this one. As mentioned, I do not usually like flowers as key notes in my perfume; but Byredo did a good job in my opinion, actually using a Flower (peony in this case) and presenting it in a clean, low-key manner.

These are actually the notes in this perfume:

Notes Breakdown in Blanche by Byredo

Top: Pepper, Rose, Aldehydes

Middle: African Orange Flower, Violet, Peony

Base: Woodsy Notes, Sandalwood, Musk

It was a surprise for me to discover Rose as one of the top notes, as I didn't sense it at all. Musk, which is one of the base notes, is definitely one of the strongest elements in this composition; mostly felt after about 5-6 hours of wear. I would recommend this perfume for day time, spring & summer periods. It has good longevity, and stays rather close to skin in terms of silage; which I actually love.

3. Hempz Herbal Lip Balm

HEMPZ Herbal Lip Balm Review

Bought this one while in Amsterdam, in the Hempz  store, located in one of the Canals. I didn't realise how good this product actually was until later. After somewhat prolonged use of matte lipsticks, I started noticing dry patches on my lips. I would usually scrub them off, but this time I felt like I needed more in terms of the nourishment.

So I decided to try this one out. I was surprised at the numbing feeling that it gave to my lips. Even more surprised was I, when I saw dry patches disappear already after first use. I was not even using it in combination with a scrub; just on its own.

It is now my go-to now for moments when I need an IMMEDIATE relief on my lips.

4. SK II Facial Treatment Essence

SK II Facial Treatment Essence Review
SK II Facial Treatment Essence

It is very likely that you came across this product many times by now: in magazines, on Insta and other social networks...it was well-promoted to say the least in the past half a year or so. So I became curious.

I first made my research, and found out that rice was the main active ingredient, which actually did not excite me much. Having forgotten about it, I stumbled upon it in Dubai Duty Free shop. The essence was priced at about $200 (for about 150ml), so I thought that it has to be extremely good and outstanding if I were to buy it. My curiosity for the product remained however, and I still wanted to give it a try.

I got a 75ml version, and after for 1 month everyday use, there is still more than half a bottle of essence left. Initially I struggled with how exactly I should use it. After toning? Before cream or after? Day or Night?

I decided to try different ways to find the most efficient one for my skin. This essence is said to "balance your skin", which let's be real, is a pretty broad statement. So I have deducted the following formula for using this product to achieve best results:

-can be used both day and night (depending on the mood)

-best after face cleansing ritual

-can be used instead of a toner

-goes very well as a product to be applied right before face masks

-should definitely be used before face cream, but not as an alternative for

Having said that, after using the product for some time, I feel that my skin has become softer and plumper, but also brighter. The fact that I found a product that goes better than toner to use before face masks (e.g. tissue/cream etc) is amazing for me too.

To sum up my small review, I just want to say- with whatever skincare product that you use or would like to purchase, don't be afraid to make some alternations to HOW it can be used; indeed, by listening to your skin you would achieve best results. Let me know if you've had similar experience? What are your top beauty picks for mid-summer 2017?
